It’s Women’s Health Week: Here are 6 Resources to Get You Started

by Joyce Warner

Women’s Health Week takes place each May and it’s a good time to check in with your primary care physician if you haven’t had a physical and your regular screenings in the last year. Given the pandemic, many of us are behind on some of these important check-ins. Many health care providers continue to offer telemedicine visits, if you want to talk with them virtually instead of going in person. SELF Magazine has a great list of tips for getting the most out of your annual doctor’s visit.

Below are 6 resources to support you during Women’s Health Week:

multicultural women indicate the week is about all women's health
  1. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Women’s Health has a variety of suggested steps and health organization partners to get you started. Check out their Healthy Living by Age for tips for you, and topics to raise with your doctor.
  2. Harvard Medical School has pulled together a handy list of screening tests for women to help uncover potential health problems early.
  3. This month FEEA is celebrating its 35th anniversary and hosting a Feds In Motion Challenge that is all about moving in your favorite way — walking, running, biking, swimming, or rolling on your favorite route — to reach the goal of 35 miles (or more!) in 35 days. Our Challenge also includes access to five virtual Wellness Wednesday classes. Check them out and consider joining our Challenge to get moving more by registering.
  4. The National Institute of Mental Health has a Women and Mental Health resource page with warning signs, suggestions on where to go for help, and videos.
  5. Did you know that two-thirds of all blindness and vision impairment occurs in women? Check out this University of Utah article for what women should do to help protect their eyes.
  6. And let’s not forget oral health! The Office of Women’s Health has an FAQ on the specifics of women’s oral health.

And don’t worry gents, we’ll be back with resources for Men’s Health Week (held each June) next month!
