It’s Fire Prevention Week

With the West Coast wildfires so much in the news, you have probably seen tips for how to evacuate and stay safe in a large-scale fire. But what about fire safety and prevention in your home? Check out some helpful tips and resources below.

DID YOU KNOW?


Unattended cooking is the leading cause of fires in the kitchen and cooking is the leading cause of fires and fire injuries in the home.

Pay attention when cooking and remember it’s safer to keep an eye on things.

PREPARE AND PREVENT


Take steps to prevent home fires, make sure your smoke alarms are in good working order, and have and practice a family evacuation plan.

Ready.gov has resources for preparation and prevention, including advice on how to keep family members with access or functional needs safe.

FEEA’s Disaster Assistance Program can help feds with temporary lodging costs and home repairs after wildfires or home fires.
