DISASTER RELIEF FOR FEDS AFFECTED BY RECENT HURRICANES
Disaster Relief Grants Available for Feds in Affected Areas Following Hurricanes Fiona and Ian
10/3/2022 – 11:00am
Following the devastating destruction caused by Hurricanes Fiona and Ian, disaster recovery efforts continue in much of Puerto Rico, Florida, South Carolina, and North Carolina.
As recovery efforts continue, help is available for feds in affected areas through FEEA’s disaster relief program.
Feds who have temporary lodging expenses, severe damage to their homes not covered by insurance, or who lose their beds to flooding or other damage are eligible for grants of up to $500.
While power is gradually being restored to many of the affected area, emergency responders stress the importance of proper generator usage to avoid the risks of fire and carbon monoxide poisoning.
- Keep your generator at least 20 feet from your home and NEVER run it in an enclosed area, including garages and lanais.
- Make sure the generator is off and cool before refueling.
- Generators produce carbon monoxide, which is an odorless, colorless, tasteless gas that can make you sick or even kill you if exposure is not caught in time. When running a generator, a carbon monoxide detector is imperative. It can save you and your family’s life.
