“But I Don’t Need Help!”

Every parent of a school-age child likely remembers the “I do it myself!” protests of the toddler years. But they might be surprised to hear a similar refrain from a middle-schooler whose grades have dropped. And with many families spending a lot more time together at home, kids might be extra resistant to academic help from moms or dads.

Tutors from outside the family unit could be the answer. FEEA’s partnership with Tutor.com provides free, on-demand, online tutoring for K-12 kids with a qualifying federal employee parent. Whether it’s a particular math concept or English grammar causing frustration, a qualified tutor can often help kids “get” a concept even where parents or teachers haven’t been able to. And hopefully without the drama that can accompany parental assistance!

Parents can also get coaching from experts, including ideas about how to help your student get organized or motivated, and how to find balance in these challenging times.

Learn more about eligibility and how to access our partnership with Tutor.com here.

FEEA thanks the Federal Long-Term Care Insurance Program (FLTCIP) for sponsoring the launch of this program, and the BlueCross BlueShield Association for enabling us to support more federal families.

FLTCIP was established by Congress in 2000 and is overseen by the U.S. Office of Personnel Management. The FLTCIP knows that many families are struggling right now trying to balance work and school, and that some children may be falling behind. At its core, the FLTCIP is about helping federal family members prepare for the future. To help your family prepare for future long term care needs, visit the program’s new Guided Planner tool.

The BlueCross BlueShield Association, part of the Federal Employee Health Benefits Program (FEHBP), is a long-time sustainer of FEEA’s mission and programs via annual contributions, as well as additional support in extraordinary times.
