It’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Each October, we observe Breast Cancer Awareness Month as part of the effort to ensure all Americans know about the risk factors, treatment options, and ongoing research of a disease that affects over 300,000 women — and men — each year. Below you’ll find a variety of helpful resources.

EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES

A number of federal agencies have good resources for learning about risk factors and treatment options:
  • CDC’s Breast Cancer Page and featured section about breast cancer in men
  • NIH’s Cancer Institute’s breast cancer patients info
  • The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services factsheet on the Women’s Health and Cancer Rights Act (WHCRA)

RESEARCH

Cancer research continues to be a cutting-edge field, with new discoveries and clinical trials happening all the time. Here are a few places to get more information:
  1. NIH resources for current/ongoing clinical trials
  2. Research advancesfrom NIH-funded studies
  3. FDA’s list of new cancer drug approvals and safety information
