World Suicide Prevention Day

a lit candle symbolizing hope for ending suicide

Suicide Prevention

On average, more than 100 people in the U.S. die by suicide every day — it’s the second leading cause of death for teens and young adults, and the 10th leading cause of death overall. Suicide affects families from every walk of life. We can all play a role in offering help and support to those around us.

If you are feeling suicidal, please call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255), text TALK to 741741, or or visit https://suicidepreventionlifeline.org/.

If you think someone you know may be suicidal:

  • Learn the risk factors and warning signs from Suicide Prevention Lifeline
  • Find a wide variety of resources and information from SAHMSA
  • Get advice on how to help an at-risk person from the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention
  • Find research, advice, and search for a psychologist near you at the American Psychological Association
  • Read about risks and prevention specific to COVID-19 concerns from the Mayo Clinic
And take a minute today to reach out to a friend or family member just to let them know you care, especially those who might be remembering a lost loved one or feeling alone and isolated.
