Celebrating Service in Honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

byDan Jackman/January 16, 2023
MLK Day of Service
  • Mid-March - Early April

    Volunteer Timeframe

This all-virtual opportunity takes place over three weeks between mid-March and early April.

  • 10 - 15 hours

    Estimated Time Commitment

Each volunteer gets a login to our scholarship system, where you’ll review and score 30-40 applications.

  • Virtual

    Volunteer Type

You’ll need a personal computer or other non-work, internet-connected device, and a willingness to give careful consideration to each student.

Millions of Americans will celebrate the service and sacrifice of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by banding together to support initiatives that make a difference in their own communities.

At FEEA, we serve the community of civilian federal and postal workers every day, and invite you to join us as a volunteer this year as part of the MLK Day of Service initiative.

Members of our virtual scholarship selection committee make a difference for federal families by assisting us in the evaluation of nearly 3,000 college scholarship applications from the best and brightest students across the U.S.

Each year, over 300 volunteers from a variety of academic and professional backgrounds help us review, score, and rank our applicants. Between mid-March and early April, volunteers commit between 10 – 15 hours to review and score 30-40 applications online.

FEEA provides detailed information about scoring, and any support you need along the way, and you can do the work when it’s convenient for you anytime before the deadline. Each application includes an essay, list of community and extracurricular activities, transcript, and reference letter, as well as some basic information about the applicant (college major, etc.).

You do not need to be a federal employee to take part. If you would like to volunteer as an application reviewer, please take a moment to register*.

VOLUNTEER FOR THE SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE

*If you or someone in your immediate family are applying for a 2022-23 scholarship, you are not eligible to volunteer this year.
