| DIPLOMATIC FUND |
The Diplomatic Fund was set up by the Department of State and the Department of Defense in
August 1995 to help the families of three individuals who were killed while on a diplomatic mission
in Bosnia. The Federal Diplomatic Family Assistance Fund-Africa (FDFAF-Africa) was added after
the 1998 U.S. Embassy bombings in Africa. This education fund will help pay the costs of a college
education for the children of the 12 Americans killed in the bombings. A $100,000 grant from the
Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in December 2004 has increased the funding available for
these scholarships. The Fund is also assisting other diplomatic families who have been victims of
overseas terrorism.
The Fallen Diplomats Scholarship Fund initiative is raising awareness of the need to provide for
the families of those who have already lost their lives to terrorist acts while on diplomatic missions
and those who may make that sacrifice in the future. FEEA is currently matching all donations to
the Diplomatic Fund, dollar-for-dollar, in order to assist the State Department in being able to
provide full college scholarships for the eight children in college (or not yet entered) who lost a
diplomatic parent to terrorism between 1998 and 2003.
Donations to the fund are tax deductible to the full extent of the law and may be made by:
