In its first two years, the FEEA/NARFE program awarded $45,000 in scholarships. For the 2000-01, 01-02 and 02-03 school years, NARFE awarded five $1,000 scholarships in each of its 10 regions for a total of $50,000. In 2003-04, NARFE increased its awards to six $1,000 scholarships in each of its regions, for a total of $60,000. The program has awarded a total of $310,000 in scholarships to the children and grandchildren of NARFE members.
Eligibility
Only children or grandchildren of members of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees may apply
Applicants to the FEEA/NARFE Scholarship Fund compete on the basis of merit alone. Financial information is not sought from applicants or retiree sponsors
Applicants must be high school seniors planning to enroll in a two- or four-year post- secondary, accredited undergraduate degree program
Applicants must have at least a 3.0 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale
Application Requirements
A completed copy of the NARFE Scholarship application form. The application is printed in the February, March and April issues of RETIREMENT LIFE, which is mailed to all NARFE members.
A complete transcript of the student's grades, including the most recent fall/winter semester, submitted with the application package. Photocopies are acceptable.
A written recommendation/character reference for the applicant, submitted with the application, from a supervisor/coworker, community leader, teacher or counselor.
An essay, not to exceed two typed, double-spaced pages, on a different topic each year (topic indicated on application).
Copies of ACT or SAT or other entrance examination scores as applicable.
